In 1988, while Dr. Byron Norton was teaching at the University of Northern Colorado, we noticed there were never enough openings in the play therapy classes for all the people who wanted to take it. So, we thought of offering the content part of the class at an off-campus location. The workshop filled to overflowing. We had to turn people away. Thus began the training program that quickly spread across the country and into Canada and now into Turkey. In the beginning, we taught a general “Theories of Play Therapy”, but over time, it evolved into presenting only the “Experiential Play Therapy” model as more interest drew us in that direction. Over the course of the years since inception, the model and training have evolved into a more in-depth approach to helping children who find themselves emotionally unequipped to work through life’s struggles.

Our office and practice remains in Greeley, Colorado. Our work, however, carries us to other locations across the country and the world.  But we are always happy to return to beautiful Colorado.
